Violist Junah Chung’s perpetually inventive musicianship has propelled a dynamic career as an international chamber musician, beloved teacher, and prolific violist throughout the New York music scene. Currently the violist for Disney’s Broadway musical The Lion King, Junah was the Assistant Principal Violist of the Iceland Symphony Orchestra, Principal Violist of the Reykjavik Chamber Orchestra, appears regularly with American Ballet Theater and has performed with the New York Philharmonic and Minnesota Orchestra.

Junah maintains an active recital schedule and has been featured in performances at Carnegie’s Weill Hall, Lincoln Center’s Paul Hall, and WNYC’s Meet the Composer. Recent solo appearances include the Musica Viva in New York City, the Yongin Symphony (Korea), regular recital performances at St. Paul’s Chapel of Trinity Church Wall Street and upcoming spring 2020 at the Metropolitan Playhouse.

Described as a spirited and dynamic performer, Junah’s passion for chamber music led him to found the Greenburgh Chamber Players in 2011 with his wife, violinist Ragga Petursdottir, bringing classical music to their local area in Westchester, NY. He is currently a member of the Entartete Trio with Eric Heubner, piano and Tim Reudeman, saxophone, and has collaborated with renowned musicians including violinists David Kim and Oleg Krysa, violists Roberto Diaz and Lawrence Dutton, and cellist Timothy Eddy.

Junah is on the faculty of the City University of New York’s Graduate Center. His love and dedication to teaching stems from his teachers whose pedagogical influence is a guiding force - Lillian and Joseph Fuchs, Felix Galimir and William Lincer.

Junah is a passionate photographer and golfer. He performs on a fine Italian viola c. 1780.
